Our Eakring training centre, situated north of Nottingham, plays a crucial role in providing expert training across the energy industry. From electricity overhead lines to virtual reality suites, the centre provides a comprehensive range of technical and leadership development programmes.

The centre also manages the training for our Gas Transmission business through a specialist gas skills facility.

Nearly £10 million is being spent on extending and improving facilities and includes a workshop and switchgear centre.

It has 45 fully equipped training rooms, a learning resource centre, four specialist practical training workshops and 98 bedroom accommodation for the trainees. While training at Eakring, employees can make the most of the on-site gym, full-board restaurant, 9 hole par 3 golf course, 5 a side football pitch, basketball court and even go fishing.

Learning at Eakring

Learning at Eakring

Our Engineer Training Programme combines on-the-job learning with structured training modules at Eakring. Some of the work involves investigation and preventative action into catastrophic failure of assets. A previous trainee engineer is now studying for her two-year foundation degree in Power Systems Management.

She said: "Eakring provided a wide range of courses both for technical and soft skills, which have provided a solid foundation for my future career. The training facilities were excellent for technical training, providing a true representation of the equipment I would be working with."
