Repair Support Engineers

What can you expect from the role?

As a Repair Support Engineer, there will be plenty of variety in your day-to-day work. As part of a two-person team, you'll respond to gas escapes and work shifts that reflect the urgency of maintaining our supply. Your work will ensure the safety of our customers and our team, and as you learn how to operate a variety of equipment, your work on the gas mains will see you develop your skills and experience on the job.

Who are you?

You’ll have already worked within a gas environment, or from another area of the utilities industry. You might even have a street works or construction background – either way you’ll be Health & Safety conscious and skilled in solving technical issues. You’ll have CSCS/CPCS qualifications, NRSWA or even GNO1/NCO1 accreditation and strong communication skills.

As a real team player and effective communicator, you’ll be the face of National Grid – we’ll need you to be comfortable interacting with the public to answer their questions and put their minds at ease. After all, it’s our main priority that customers are always looked after and kept safe.

Due to the mobile nature of this role, we’ll need you to have a full UK driving licence. This is an environment that caters for our customers round-the-clock and at various locations, so you will be expected to work to a standby rota due to the unpredictable nature of any issues that might arise.

The breathing apparatus you'll wear requires that you are clean shaven to be considered for this role.

What can you expect from us?

At National Grid, we like to reward your hard work. With a starting salary of £22,260, you’ll also receive performance related bonus, shift and call out allowances and payments for any additional hours worked. With us, you will have real earning potential.

As we are dedicated to your growth, we'll also give you industry leading training with recognised qualifications so you can further your career with us. In addition to your excellent development opportunities, our package also includes a defined contribution pension scheme, 25 days holiday and a comprehensive flexible benefits scheme.

Together we can plan for your future – it’s your chance to have a life-long career with one of the most iconic brands within the energy network. And because we value and encourage diversity of thought whatever your background, we’re creating an inclusive, switched-on workforce so that we continually drive performance and deliver excellence.

Application Process

We'll require an up-to-date CV with a covering letter outlining why you are applying for this position, with any relevant experience and what you can bring to the role.

Shortlisting for the first stage will involve a review of your CV and Covering Letter followed by a telephone interview. After this, successful candidates will be invited to attend an assessment centre where they will undertake a number of activities including an interview and practical assessment.

We encourage candidates to submit their applications as early as possible as National Grid Gas Distribution's recruitment periods can and may vary. We reserve the right to remove this advert or close it to further applications at any point during the recruitment process.
